As it is now
Thank you for visiting and being concerned about Connor and his recovery. Currently due to his condition and being in ICU, he is not accepting any visitors at this time.
I'll just dive in and list the things that have happened so far and then try and keep this up to date as time goes on.
Connor had a skateboarding accident on Monday, July 17th in Lincoln City. He fractured his skull causing a severe head trauma and was airlifted to Legacy Emanuel Trauma Hospital in Portland that evening. Upon arrival he was put into a medically induced coma in an effort to allow his brain an opportunity to rest while the doctors assessed his condition.
On Tuesday, July 18, the neurosurgeon performed surgery on his skull in an effort to drain the blood that had pooled on the right side of his brain. It was discovered at that time that his injuries were more severe than had been reflected on the CAT Scans. The surgeon then proceeded to remove more of the skull bone, creating a flap, which allowed his brain to expand into this space relieving the pressure on both sides of his brain. In our discussion with the surgeon after the operation, he was surprised by what he found, but was pleased that he proceeded quickly with the surgery and was hopeful that this would assist Connor with his recovery.
All during the day on Wednesday, July 19, Connor was sedated in order to allow his brain time to rest. The process of swelling, especially the region we are dealing with on Connor, spans a 72hr timetable from trauma to maximum swelling. After this time period we should start to see the swelling taper off and reduce, allowing the next step of pain medication lowering and eventually waking him up.
On Thursday, July 20, Connor is once again in a resting mode to allow the final phase of swelling to finish and begin to lower pain medication. The process is excruciatingly slow and tedious but the small arm, leg, finger and neck movements are large and quite notable. I cannot reiterate enough, the process is and will be slow until we can get him to wake and start his recovery. The surgeon has visited him this afternoon, removed the drain from the skull surgery performed on Tuesday and provided several comments. He is overall pleased with Connor's progress and happy with the leg, arm, chest and neck movement that is occurring. All of this movement is typical and on course for a steady recovery. Currently Connor will spend the remainder of today and tonight resting and allowing his brain to heal.
We receive well wishes each day and we pass these on to Connor. Many of you have expressed your willingness to help us and below are some ways you can be helpful to our family.

Hi Linda, Thank you for your good vibes and positive energy. We need everything we can get right now. I'll pass it on to him when I see him tomorrow.
DeleteSo sorry to hear about Connor. I think about you all often. Now you are in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteDustin and I are so sorry to hear about all that Connor has been through. We pray for his total recovery. We pray for your strength and endurance. Brain recovery is frustratingly slow... I am not sure if you know that Dustin had brain surgery last year, and I had a series of strokes and radio surgery at the end of 2014. I realize these are totally different types of surgeries and issues, but I am just saying we can in some part relate to all you are going through. It is definitely one day at a time--- maybe one moment at a time. Just know we are praying for all of you.
ReplyDeleteShannon, Your entire family has been through enough. Too much, actually. Frank and I are praying for strength or you and your clan, understanding for Sloane and Quinn and, of course, well wishes for Conner. We will continue to pray for you all, and especially for Conner. If there is anything at all, or even if you just need to vent, you can call me, anytime. Sending cyber hugs to you all. {{{HUGS}}} Janet
