Leaps and Bounds
Currently due to his condition and being in ICU, Connor is not accepting any visitors at this time.
Connor made awesome progress all through the day! They were able to get him off the ventilator early in the day and on to the trach cuff. In order to do that, they had to turn off the propofol (sleep med) completely. The new oral meds seem to be getting closer to the right combination allowing him to be calm with less thrashing.
After 4hrs on the trach cuff he became quite agitated and the nurses decided to put him back on the ventilator in an attempt to see if this would assist with his agitation in lieu of meds. They were right, he must have been tired and fell into a calm comfortable sleep.
They came into his room at 7pm to perform an ultra sound on his lower body (verifying no blood clots) and he awoke and began to squirm. The nurses then gave him his round of oral medications which he was due for and he began to calm down. They were planning to take him off the ventilator again at 8pm and back on the trach cuff to see if he is ready again for a few hours of breathing that way. They will monitor to make certain he does not become too agitated.
Their mission tonight is to assist him to get more of a sleep pattern at night and keep him off the sleep meds. Looking forward to tomorrow and the upcoming day that we leave ICU and move down the hall to trauma recovery - goodnight everyone.
Thank you and keep up the good work. Everyone's combined homework is making a huge dent in this long road we are embarking on.
