More hand movement
Currently, we are looking for visitor/s who can sit with Connor on Monday and Friday next week from 5-8pm. He has a full schedule during the days and doesn't have time for visitors until this time of day.
We unfortunately were drained yesterday evening and both fell asleep on our mutual ends prior to posting an update.
Connor has continued to progress with his therapy sessions. The OT did E-Stim on his hand yesterday. And today he awoke to more movement in his left hand, which felt like the sun coming out after a rainy day. His mood and personality of old returned and nothing could take that away from him today. They continued with the E-Stim today. So, hopefully we'll see more progress tomorrow.
During his Physical therapy session, he ventured outdoors yesterday to see the world he has missed for the past weeks and was overwhelmed by the stimulation of it all. He had to sit down to take it all in to avoid stumbling while walking. Upon returning to his room, he promptly took off his shoes so he could relax and rest his tired feet - longest walk to date!
The PT has given Connor homework of walking the halls with his parents 3 times a day. She wants him up and walking more. Hopefully she will allow us to take him outside soon.
His speech therapist has had a bit of an awakening working with Connor. She is a paper and pencil kind of person and Connor is a millennial - everything is digital. She found him an app for his phone where he can keep track of his meds and also she wants to help his memory by writing down on his phone what happens in his therapy sessions each day. He thinks it is a dumb idea. But it is helping him to remember what he did the day before. So, for now he is humoring her.
Connor's body has reset since not having eaten in 4 weeks. He has had a rash a couple of times after eating ice cream, sherbet and cheese on pizza. All of these things were hospital foods. He has had a cheeseburger and pizza from outside of the hospital and had no problems. So, for now we are avoiding all dairy.
We all are excited to have him home and are preparing to care for him here. It will be another major change. But one that we all are ready for as we continue to the end of his hospital stay on fumes.
Goodnight all
